Raising Tacoma in Print

If you live in Tacoma's North End, you might receive a neighborhood magazine called Greet North End Tacoma. It's a charming magazine with local articles and sponsors. It recently went through some changes, and it's aiming to provide more content and photos. You can guess who they asked to take on the family column. Yup, Raising Tacoma!

I now write a monthly Family Corner column! I will share events and activities for the month the issue is released, similar to how I share on my Instagram and blog. Luckily, I will post the articles on my blog if you do not live in the area and receive the magazine. I might share even more on my blog, so check it out either way!

The September issue had two articles: "North End Tacoma Resident: Heather Brown" and "Squeezing into Fall: Apples!" Below is the first article introducing me. This other post has the apple article for you to check out.

I look forward to sharing all the fun and exciting things you can do as a family in our area monthly.

North End Tacoma Resident: Heather Brown

Hi there, I'm Heather! I'm new here. No, not new to Tacoma, but new to Greet Magazine. You may already know me from my local Instagram and blog, Raising Tacoma. There I write about all my adventures with my two boys.

I'm excited to extend the Raising Tacoma adventures to this "Family Corner" space on Greet to share more family fun around town.

Let me take a step back and introduce myself more. I was born and raised in a small, beachy town called Encinitas, just north of San Diego.

Over the years, I've slowly migrated north with a stop in California's Bay Area for college at Santa Clara University. I stayed there awhile and picked up a career in email marketing (psst, it's not spam).

Then, my boyfriend went to the University of Oregon for law school, and I followed him. I only lived in Eugene, OR for a year, but I grew a deep love for the Pacific Northwest. After he finished his degree, we landed in Seattle.

At the beginning of 2016, when my son Caleb was born, I decided to stay at home with him. We also said goodbye to six great years in Seattle and bought our first home in Tacoma, WA. Another three years, and we had Wesley, and suddenly I was a mom of two boys!

Ok, now, picture this. I am a stay-at-home mom with a baby. I felt lonely, missed the interaction from my old career, and found myself searching for a creative outlet. It was in this space that I decided to begin Raising Tacoma.

I realized my happy place wasn't staying home but going out with my kids. I felt antsy if I stayed home all day, and it was easier to keep the kids happy when they were out and about. I also discovered I enjoyed helping others (especially other moms) flex their spirit of adventure.

I've now been blogging and Instagraming Raising Tacoma since January 2018. I share where we go, what we eat, what trips we take, or what looks fun. That's what I aim to do here in "Family Corner." Share fun activities and adventures you can share with your family. I hope you find it encouraging and it gets you to get out and have fun too!
